Jason Fisherman, MD
Chairman of the Board
Managing Director, Advent International
Dr. Jason Fisherman joined Advent in 1994. He has 10 years of venture capital experience and nine years of drug research and clinical development experience. Dr. Fisherman has led or co-led Advents investments in over 20 companies, including Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Anadys Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ANDS), Array BioPharma (Nasdaq: ARRY), Cellzome, Crucell (Nasdaq: CRXL; Euronext), Cubist Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: CBST), CV Therapeutics (Nasdaq: CVTX), deCODE genetics (Nasdaq/Nasdaq Europe: DCGN), EPIX Medical (Nasdaq: EPIX), Exelixis (Nasdaq: EXEL), ILEX Oncology (Nasdaq: IXLO), Neurogenetics, Oridion Systems (NSWX: ORIDN) and Telik (Nasdaq: TELK).
Prior to Advent, Dr. Fisherman was senior director of medical research at Enzon, where he managed clinical programs in oncology, genetic diseases and blood substitutes. Previously, at the National Cancer Institute, he was responsible for developing a portfolio of anticancer drugs, including Taxol. While a research fellow at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, he focused on the regulation of gene transcription and molecular oncology.
He received a BA in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale, an MD from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
Richard Lim
Investment Manager, MVM Biosciences
Mr. Richard Lim joined MVM Life Science Partners in January 2003 and was promoted to Investment Manager in 2006. He is a Member of the LLP and founder of MVMs US operations. Since joining MVM, Mr. Lim has been extensively involved with many portfolio companies, including: Aegerion, Momenta, Clavis, Third Wave, and Sangamo. He previously worked as Vice President at Saunders Karp & Megrue, a $1.7 billion growth equity/LBO firm (now known as Apax Partners)\, where he specialized in health care principal investing. Prior to that, he was a Manager at LEK Consulting, a major management consulting firm, providing strategic advice to life science companies. Richard was also an Associate with M&A investment bank BT Wolfensohn.
Mr. Lim earned both AB and MBA degrees from Harvard University.
William Poole
President, CEO William
Poole has over thirty years of
extensive experience in the
bio-pharmaceutical and medical
device industries . From 1972 to
early 1996, Mr. Poole worked for
Lederle Laboratories, a Division of
American Cyanamid Company. During
his 24-year career at Cyanamid, Mr.
Poole held positions of increasing
responsibility and held the position
of World-Wide Division President of
the Medical Device Division when
Wyeth acquired Cyanamid in 1995.
After a brief stint as President of
Fisons Pharmaceuticals, which was
acquired by Rhone Poulenc-Rorer,
Bill went on to become President,
North American Pharmaceuticals, of
Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, where
he served from 1997 to 2000. From
2001 to 2003, he served as President
of Biovail Pharmaceuticals. In both
of these companies, Mr. Poole was
instrumental in aggressively growing
revenue, building a solid management
team and dramatically improving
profitability. As President of these
firms, Mr. Poole had total P&L
responsibility and directly managed
vice presidents in charge of
manufacturing, sales, research &
development, legal, marketing,
finance, regulatory and human
resources functions.
Since his departure from Biovail,
Bill
has acted as an independent
consultant to the pharmaceutical
industry.
Ian Sanderson, MBA
Managing Director, SG Cowen Securities Corp.
Mr. Ian Sanderson is a Managing Director at SG Cowen and covers emerging and midcap pharmaceutical companies, including specialty pharmaceutical, drug delivery, and generic pharmaceutical companies. He has been a pharmaceuticals analyst at SG Cowen since 1992.
Mr. Sanderson is a member of the Healthcare/Pharmaceutical team, which was ranked 3rd in the 2000 Greenwich Equity Research Survey, and was runner-up in the Specialty Pharmaceuticals category of the 2000 Institutional Investor Survey. Prior experience includes investment banking at SG Cowen and Houlihan, Lokey, Howard & Zukin; securities analysis at Cambridge Associates and Putnam International Advisors; and systems design at U.S. Surgical Corporation.
He received a BA in Political Economy from Williams College and an MBA in Finance, from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Otello Stampacchia, Ph.D.
Chief Investment Adviser, Omega
Fund
Mr. Stampacchia has served as Chief
Investment Adviser of the Omega Fund
since 2005. The Omega Fund is an
investment vehicle specializing in
providing liquidity to existing
investors in health care companies
through the acquisition and
subsequent management of direct
investment positions. Omega acquires
ownership interests in public and
private biopharmaceutical and device
companies, focusing on Western
Europe and the USA.
Mr. Stampacchia has been involved in
various venture capital activities
in biotechnology since 2001,
formerly as Head of Life Sciences
Investments at NIB Capital Private
Equity (now Alpinvest Partners), a
private equity asset manager with
currently over EUR32bn under
management. Previously, Mr.
Stampacchia was a member of the
health care Corporate Finance and
M&A team at Goldman Sachs
International in London, and he
helped to initiate the health care
investment activities of Index
Securities (now Index Ventures).
Mr. Stampacchia has a Ph.D. in
Molecular Biology from the
University of Geneva (Switzerland)
and a European Doctorate in
Biotechnology (EDBT) from the
European Association for Higher
Education in Biotechnology.
